AANAT

Serotonin N-acetyltransferase UniProt accession Q16613

Controls the night/day rhythm of melatonin production in the pineal gland. Catalyzes the N-acetylation of serotonin into N-acetylserotonin, the penultimate step in the synthesis of melatonin

Source: UniProt

Monomer (By similarity). Interacts with several 14-3-3 proteins, including YWHAB, YWHAE, YWHAG and YWHAZ, preferentially when phosphorylated at Thr-31. Phosphorylation on Ser-205 also allows binding to YWHAZ, but with lower affinity.

The interaction with YWHAZ considerably increases affinity for arylalkylamines and acetyl-CoA and protects the enzyme from dephosphorylation and proteasomal degradation (By similarity). It may also prevent thiol-dependent inactivation (By similarity)

Synthetic Lethal Network

Genes with an experimentally identified or computationally predicted synthetic-lethal relationship to AANAT, aggregated across our SSL data sources. Click any partner node to view that gene’s page.

Nodes and edges are coloured by the SSL data source. Partners appearing in more than one source are shown in grey.
